Boomi FAQs
What is Boomi used for?
Boomi is an integration platform as a service (iPaaS). Companies use it to connect cloud and on-premise applications, automate data flows between them, publish and manage APIs, exchange EDI documents with trading partners and keep master data consistent with Boomi DataHub. More recently, they also use Boomi Agentstudio to build and govern AI agents. Typical projects include syncing an ERP like NetSuite or SAP with Salesforce, or automating order and invoice exchange with suppliers.
Is Dell Boomi the same as Boomi AtomSphere?
It’s the same platform under newer names. Dell sold Boomi in 2021, and it now operates as an independent company. AtomSphere has been renamed the Boomi Enterprise Platform. Several runtime terms changed too: an Atom is now a runtime, a Molecule is a runtime cluster and an Atom Cloud is a runtime cloud. Your existing processes keep running as before. Only the names have changed.
How much does Boomi cost?
Boomi has a published pay-as-you-go plan that starts at a monthly fee plus a charge per message. Its subscription editions (Professional, Enterprise and Enterprise Plus) are quoted individually. Your cost depends mainly on:
- the edition you choose
- add-ons such as API Management, DataHub and B2B/EDI
- your transaction volumes
- your contract terms

How long does a Boomi implementation take?
A single integration that uses standard connectors can often go live within a few weeks. Larger programmes that combine several systems, EDI partners, APIs and master data usually run in phases over several months. The biggest factors are:

- how much custom business logic you need
- how much testing your partners require

Can Boomi handle high-volume and real-time integrations?
Yes, with the right runtime design. Boomi supports real-time APIs and event-driven integration. Performance depends on how runtimes are sized, clustered and split across workloads, and some reviewers report bottlenecks when everything runs on one runtime. For high-volume use cases, we run a proof of concept with your real data first, so you can see actual throughput before you commit.
Boomi vs MuleSoft vs Workato: which should we choose?
Each platform is strong in a different area:
